Introduction to Tai Chi

In this workshop you will learn the history of this ancient Chinese martial arts form and its application in the stressful world of today. Tai Chi traditionally has been recognized as a formidable martial art, and recently the West has also acknowledged the healing benefits of its practice. In addition to learning the basic principles of Tai Chi, you will participate in the slow rhythmic movements, gentle breathing, and relaxing style for approximately 45 minutes. Since it can be practiced sitting or standing there is no pre-required level of fitness, only comfortable clothing. The Sun style movements you will learn have been developed by Dr. Paul Lam and have been authorized by the American Arthritis Foundation. Tai Chi has been described as a "moving meditation" and practitioners may enjoy a reduced level of stress, improved balance and flexibility, and an overall sense of well-being.

Joan Cosgrove has studied Qi Gong and Tai Chi since 2002, under the instruction of Sensei Jeannie Redding and Masters Ken Smith and John Fritz, from Grandmaster Fred Villari’s lineage. She has been an instructor in Royal Palm Beach for the past two years. Joan is also certified by Dr Paul Lam as an instructor of the “Tai Chi for Arthritis” program authorized by the American Arthritis Foundation. Dr Leigh Callahan, PhD is the study’s lead author. Wear comfortable clothing and learn at your own pace.

"I have been taking lessons from Joan for over two years now. It is amazing how simple little moves and the power of the mind can produce such inner peace and body strength. Everyone should try Tai Chi. Joan is such a great teacher who really cares about helping others."
