Among the many uses of the hand drum, the journey is one of the lesser known. To journey with the drum is experiential, but it's not ceremony. Nevertheless we still ask for protection, smudge, and do the Hollow Bone when starting. Prone or sitting, (your choice), we first quiet the mind. We then sequence into our heart-mind connection. For accomplished meditators, this will be easy and the "third-eye" sensation will not only start up on the forehead, but in the heart-solar plexus area as well. If you're new to this, you'll learn how this is done and how to strengthen it with practice.
A single drum in the background sets a slow and easy pace to begin your guided journey; a few words are spoken, loosely guiding you out of the material world, closer to the veil, where you take off on your own. But you'll be safe at all times, the drum ensures that. If you've ever wondered how the ancestors were able to communicate with the spirits (of the animals, of the plants, of the stone people, the Helper Spirits and so on) you'll come to understand this as your consciousness shifts. On the day of the workshop please eat lightly (fruit is recommended) and be well hydrated. The Journey helps develop the intuition, and is ideal for those exploring new ways to still the mind, such as Reiki students and practitioners.
Journey With the Drum
Labyrinths have existed longer than anybody knows. The reason they have survived the ages is because they work, and like anything experiential, the more you walk a labyrinth, the deeper your experience will become. Some say it’s because walking a labyrinth is a moving meditation, which makes it all about the person. Others say it is the movement of energy, of the individual and the environment. Perhaps the best way to understand walking a labyrinth is to see it as merging both teachings; moving environmental and personal energy from a meditative state.
The only way to benefit from the labyrinth is through the experience of a walk. There will be a short discussion on the labyrinth and how to proceed, how to use small stones to lay down what you are ready to let go of, to pick up what you are ready to manifest. Our labyrinth is a seven layer Hopi-style and you will be instructed on how to walk it. If you work with small stones, feel free to bring them as you may choose to use them in your walk. We will also have stones there. This particular labyrinth is east-gate aligned with the rising sun of the summer solstice, which makes it a Light Labyrinth. If you have little or no experience with labyrinth, this is the best place for you to start. A Labyrinth is not a maze; there is a definite path to the center and back out; your steps are guided so your mind will be free. A maze has many paths, tricks, and dead-ends, and should not be confused with labyrinth, or labyrinth work. A drumming, drum healing circle often follows for those interested in extending the experience of their walk. Labyrinth Walk
